202614-SHALIER-DALTON ROAD RENO
As its owners transition from farm life to town living, this carefully considered renovation transforms a 30-year-old Te Awamutu home into a brighter, more connected, and future-ready place to enjoy the next chapter of life.
Designed by David
This renovation focuses on unlocking the home's full potential by creating a more open, functional, and contemporary living environment. By removing a redundant non-loadbearing wall, the kitchen, living, and dining areas are brought into a stronger relationship with one another, improving both spatial flow and everyday usability while creating a more generous central living hub. Subtle adjustments throughout the bedroom and bathroom wing allow the home to better meet the clients' brief without increasing the overall footprint, including the reorganisation of the bathroom and ensuite layouts through carefully considered space reallocations. A key design move was the enlargement of Bedroom 2, recognising its desirable north-facing position and enhancing both its long-term value and flexibility. Rather than dedicating valuable floor area to a seldom-used office, a dedicated storage room has been introduced, providing a more practical outcome for daily living while ensuring every square metre of the home works harder for its occupants. The result is a balanced renovation that improves functionality, enhances natural living patterns, and delivers a more modern and future-focused home.
