Some projects are a little more special than others particularly when the client happens to be your next-door neighbour, and quite possibly the best next-door neighbour you could ever have. This simple extension takes a much-loved 47sqm home and adds approximately 35sqm, creating a new 82sqm home with more space, comfort and, most importantly, happiness. The design extends eastward, introducing a new dining area along the eastern and northern walls. Still in the early stages, the idea is to use built-in or bench-style seating around a table, creating a relaxed little sun-soaked space where natural light becomes part of everyday life, somewhere to sit, eat, work, talk or simply hang out. The lounge is being shaped around a new couch, positioned to face south, and a full wall-to-wall cabinet incorporating the television. It is deliberately simple, better proportions, better light, better places to be. And while the immediate project is focused on making the existing home work beautifully, we have also introduced the possibility of a Stage 2 outdoor living roof FORM something to think about, look forward to and perhaps get excited about as the home evolves.
